Alaska Airlines is set to enhance its service from Portland International Airport (PDX) with the launch of its first nonstop flight to New Orleans this January. This new daily service will provide a convenient link between Portland and the Big Easy, running through next spring and covering the vibrant Mardi Gras season. Tickets for this exciting route will be available starting June 19 on alaskaair.com.

As the dominant carrier in Portland for over two decades, Alaska Airlines is committed to expanding its network and offering more nonstop destinations to its passengers. “As the largest carrier in Portland for more than 20 years, it’s important we continue to expand the nonstop destinations we offer our guests and give them choices when planning their next trip,” said Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning for Alaska Airlines. “We can’t wait to offer another convenient way to connect our guests along the West Coast to New Orleans, a city rich in history and culture.”

This new route is welcomed by the New Orleans aviation community. Kevin Dolliole, director of aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, shared his excitement: “We are thrilled that Alaska Airlines is launching nonstop service from New Orleans to Portland. Portland has been the top unserved destination from New Orleans, and this new route not only strengthens the connection between our vibrant cities but also underscores our commitment to enhancing the travel experience for our community and visitors alike.”

The introduction of the Portland to New Orleans route marks Alaska Airlines’ 55th nonstop destination from PDX. The daily flights are strategically scheduled to depart from Portland in the morning, allowing travelers to enjoy a full afternoon in New Orleans before returning in the evening. This service is expected to facilitate greater travel between these two culturally rich cities, boosting tourism and business opportunities.

Alaska Airlines continues to broaden its reach from Portland, having recently added daily nonstop flights to Nashville and soon to Atlanta starting October 1. This summer, the airline is averaging over 100 daily departures from Portland, connecting passengers to destinations such as Anchorage, Ontario, Reno, and Santa Rosa.

The local aviation community views this expansion positively. Dan Pippenger, chief aviation officer at the Port of Portland, expressed his optimism: “Alaska’s continued investment in PDX is great news for our travel community. Until now, New Orleans was one of the largest U.S. markets without a nonstop from PDX. Tens of thousands of travelers already fly between these two great cities every year, and we expect that number to only grow with this new nonstop service.”

Looking ahead, Alaska Airlines plans to further enhance its amenities at PDX with the opening of a new Alaska Lounge in 2026. The 14,000-square-foot lounge will nearly double the current seating capacity and offer features such as a barista station with Stumptown coffee, complimentary beer, wine, and house spirits, signature Loungers for relaxation, and a custom fireplace.

Alaska Airlines aims to deliver a premium travel experience, offering the most legroom in First Class and Premium Class on the West Coast, no change fees, multiple fare options, a generous loyalty program, 30 Global Partners, and West Coast-inspired food and beverages on board.

With the new nonstop flights to New Orleans and the ongoing commitment to enhancing travel experiences, Alaska Airlines remains the premier choice for travelers on the West Coast. Book your tickets starting June 19 and get ready to explore the rich culture and history of New Orleans with the convenience and comfort of Alaska Airlines.
