New Video: Discovering the Vibrant Oasis of Majorelle Garden in Marrakech
A Timeless Oasis of Art, Color, and Inspiration in the Heart of Marrakech
Marrakech is a city that awakens the senses—bustling souks, the scent of spices in the air, and stunning historical landmarks at every turn. But hidden within this energetic city lies a tranquil escape—the breathtaking Majorelle Garden.
In my latest YouTube video, I take you on a walk through this 9,000-square-meter botanical paradise, once the artistic haven of French painter Jacques Majorelle and later the retreat of fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent. This lush oasis, with its exotic plants, bold Art Deco architecture, and the mesmerizing Majorelle Blue, is unlike anything else in Morocco.
Majorelle spent nearly 40 years designing and perfecting this garden, bringing in botanical treasures from around the world—from towering cacti to delicate lotus flowers. However, after his passing, the garden fell into neglect. By 1980, it was at risk of being replaced by a hotel.
That’s when Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé stepped in, purchasing and restoring the property. They made Majorelle’s old studio their home, renaming it Villa Oasis, and ensured that the garden would remain a public sanctuary for generations to come.
For many years, the Majorelle Garden has provided me with an endless source of inspiration, and I have often dreamt of its unique colors,” Yves Saint Laurent once said. Walking through its crisscrossing pathways, it’s easy to see why. The garden is an explosion of vivid hues and exotic textures, blending Moorish and Art Deco influences in a way that feels almost otherworldly.
Beyond the botanical wonders, the Berber Museum, housed inside the former artist’s studio, showcases a fascinating collection of traditional Berber artifacts, while the nearby Yves Saint Laurent Museum celebrates the designer’s deep connection to Morocco.
