If you cannot or simply don’t want to take a trek across Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, there is always a train option. Trains from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, Peru, take around 1h 31m and cover a distance of approximately 43 km. There are two services currently available, one by PeruRail and Inca Rail; I took PeruRail. It was a comfortable trip in spacious railcars with plenty of windows all around to watch the scenery go by. They had a drink and snack service available as well. I arrived in Machu Picchu in much better shape than my mates, who came in tired and dirty after a two-day trek through Inca Trail. But I am sure they had one of a kind experience and more interesting photographs. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my train trip a lot.
